American University police arrested an individual who hung anti-gun control posters near campus early Monday morning. The posters depicted an image of Adolph Hitler with one of the gun control advocates from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, according to a statement issued by Vice President of Campus Life Dr. Fanta Aw.
Officers saw the subject at 2 a.m. Monday morning. Officers say the subject is not a member of American University. The subject was caught affixing the posters to a bus stop on the 3500 block of Nebraska Ave., NW across from main campus.
AU Police stopped and questioned the subject before contacting the Metropolitan Police Department and Metro Transit Police. The individual was arrested.
The posters were found at the beginning of Holocaust Remembrance Week at American University.
"We understand how hurtful and deeply offensive this can be to our Jewish community and to all who mourn in solidarity with them," wrote Aw in the statement that was emailed to the AU community.
