The Kennedy Political Union will host its final event of the fall semester on Tuesday, Dec. 5: a screening of Lilly Revlin's documentary "Heather Booth: Changing the World." Notable civil rights activist and organizer, Heather Booth, will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A session.
The documentary tells the story of the Mississippi-native and the struggles she encountered throughout her 50 years of organizing. Booth was only 18 years-old when she first got involved with the Civil Rights movement.
Since then, Booth has continued to make influential strides, from working with Elizabeth Warren and Julian Bond to founding national coalitions to funding JANE, a secret network offering safe abortion services. Booth's work evolved into the Midwest Academy, a training school she founded in 1973 for progressive organizers.
The free event, co-sponsored by AU Dems, Women's Initiative and the School of Communication, will start at 6:30 p.m. in McKinley's Malsi Doyle and Michael Forman Theater. For more information regarding future KPU events, stay posted on their socials: @AUSGKPU or check out their website.
